Entering his 4th season as the head coach of the Berkeley College New Jersey men's basketball team, Anthony Calabrese is well on his way to turning the program into a New Jersey powerhouse, while pushing the program to unprecedented heights. Under Calabrese's guidance, Berkeley College New Jersey has produced three consecutive seasons in which the team doubled their win total from the last season.
His career record of 23-42 is by far the best in Berkeley's short program history. Prior to Calabrese joining the program, the team struggled to obtain more than 2 wins per season.
Calabrese has now developed several outstanding players, including Second Team USCAA All-American Isaac Robinson and USCAA All-American Honorable Mention Gary Williams Jr, who also became the first Berkeley College New Jersey player to nearly reach 1000 pts in 3 years.
As a scholar-athlete driven coach, Calabrese has been instrumental in the outstanding overall academic performance of the program. Over the past three years, most of his players have attained a 3.0 grade point average or better while completing a full-time course load of 12 hours or more per quarter.
Coach Calabrese began coaching in 2004 at Kearny High school, where he spent a total of five seasons at various different levels with the school. In addition, he coached the Radiant Suns AAU program in Edison and has worked coaching camps and tournaments at Rutgers University for the past three years, where he remains active. He has worked camps in Kearny, Harrison, and North Arlington, and Five Star camps.
Following college, coach Calabrese started his business career in 2001 as a Registered Rep at New England Financial, where he earned several commendations and awards such as Star Producer, Rookie of the Year, and Million Dollar Round Table for service and sales. In 2002 he attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where he received a Certified Financial Planner designation certificate/diploma in 2004. At that time he started his own company with two partners called Creative Planning Associates
specializing in corporate pension and retirement plan management and currently oversees approximately $200 million in assets firm wide. The firm changed names in January to Beacon Wealth Management.
Coach Calabrese grew up in the Philadelphia area and attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick. At Rutgers he majored in financial economics and graduated in 2001 with a bachelor of arts degree in economics. He currently resides in Toms River, NJ, with his wife Kathleen Calabrese and his son Anthony Calabrese II.
