Melvin Montalvo was honored as the Berkeley College Alumnus of the Year in 2014, having accomplished a successful career in informational technology and network services. Yet that hasn’t stopped him from continuing his education. Mr. Montalvo is currently pursuing an M.B.A. in Management from Berkeley College.

“Each time I have returned to Berkeley College, new events and developments in different industries have changed the marketplace,” Mr. Montalvo said. “Coming back to school has allowed me to adjust my skill set to adapt to the changing environment.”

Mr. Montalvo first received an A.A.S. in Accounting from Berkeley College in 1991, and then a B.S. in Business Administration – Management in 2003. He expects to graduate with an M.B.A. from Berkeley College in 2017.

Mr. Montalvo first gained business experience at Fortune 500 companies such as Robert Half International and Bank of America. In 2006, he co-founded My IT Provider, a NJ-based networking and technology support company for small to mid-size businesses and was Vice President of Sales. After My IT Provider was acquired by Document Solutions in 2015, he was appointed the IT Project Manager for the company’s IT Division, a role he still currently holds.

A resident of Stirling, NJ, Mr. Montalvo is a member of the Hispanic Law Enforcement Society of Essex County and the Hispanic Referral Networking Group in Morris County. He volunteers as a youth soccer coach and for Habitat for Humanity, and received the President’s Award from the Hispanic Law Enforcement Society in 2005 for organizing high school scholarship dinners. He also represents the Berkeley College Alumni Association on the 2015-2020 Strategic Planning Committee, and continues to share his business experience with current students through career panels and Reunion Weekends.
