On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Kevin Egan, a Legal Studies professor in the Berkeley College School of Professional Studies, will host a special event to celebrate the release of his newest novel, A Shattered Circle, at Mysterious Bookshop in Manhattan. Professor Egan will be reading from his newest publication and signing copies for those in attendance.

Egan began his Berkeley career in 2009 and currently teaches two courses – Legal Research and Writing and Advanced Legal Research, Writing, and Advocacy. Both classes have a healthy emphasis on writing and researching, skills in which the professor has expertise as both a legal expert and a successful published author. Students learn to research and write various legal documents, such as case briefs and memos, with clarity and precision.

“I tell the students that the best way to find out what you know or what you believe is to try to write it down,” Egan said when asked about how his fiction writing relates to his work as a teacher. “You can’t fake writing because a reader can sense that you do not know what you are writing about.”

One of Egan’s courthouse novels, Midnight, was named a Kirkus Reviews Best Book of 2013. His short fiction has appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, Rosebud, and The Westchester Review. Regarding his newest book, Publisher’s Weekly said A Shattered Circle is Egan’s “best [book] to date.” When he’s not teaching classes at Berkeley College, Egan works in the iconic New York County Courthouse, which serves as the setting and inspiration for much of his recent fiction.

Those interested are encouraged to come out, meet the author, and hear him read from his newest publication. Space is limited, so arrive early!
