"Berkeley Cares" for Haiti
Message from the President:
As you know, Berkeley College stepped up to the challenge of raising funds for the Haiti people after the catastrophic earthquake in January. I am very proud to announce that the Berkeley community has raised over $8,000.00 to support the Haiti relief efforts. Berkeley College will be matching that amount for a grand total of $16,336.00.
I would personally like to thank Student Government Leadership and the Office of Student Development and Campus Life for their energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to make this fundraising effort a tremendous success.
The total funds raised will be divided up between four relief organizations - Americares, Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity, and Save the Children. Ms. Jennifer Grey, VP, Individual Philanthropy, AmeriCares joined me for a photo op yesterday and she sent a personal thank you, "I was glad to have the chance to meet and thank you for the fundraising by your students and the matching support forthcoming from Berkeley College. We are grateful for their efforts on behalf of AmeriCares and the people of Haiti so devastated by the deadly earthquake. This will help support disaster relief now and the rebuilding that must take place moving forward."
I inquired about the current state of affairs in Haiti and Ms. Grey said, "We pledged $15 million in aid in the days immediately following the disaster and have more than tripled that commitment to $50 million in aid because the need is so great and there is much to be done in the months and years ahead."
As you can see, your generous donations will be well utilized in helping those in need in Haiti. Thank you.
