On behalf of the entire Berkeley community, I offer my sincere condolences to the Newtown, Connecticut community. In honor of the victims who lost their lives on Friday we are flying the American flag at half-staff.
As we struggle to cope with this terrible loss, we are reminded of the importance of being prepared for unexpected events that may affect the safety of our campuses. Members of the Senior Leadership team and the Public Safety Director met Monday morning to reaffirm our commitment to safety and to review our Emergency Preparedness Plan.
Berkeley College remains committed to providing a safe working and learning environment for all our students, faculty and staff. The college will also offer additional preparedness training to faculty and staff over the next several months.
We urge you to review the safety guides available on the Berkeley College website at http://berkeleycollege.edu/berkeley_bc/3356.htm#activeshooter .
Questions about emergency preparedness or any other safety concerns may be addressed to Ron Hurley, Director of Public Safety, at email@example.com.
I recognize that many of you may experience feelings of sorrow, anxiety or even anger in the aftermath of Friday's tragic events. Please remember that confidential counseling services are available at each of our campuses. I encourage you to contact a counselor if you would like to talk.
