Training and support of online faculty; developing interactive, media-rich online English, literature, and speech courses using Visual Communicator, Camtasia, Wimba Voice software, Pronto Instant text and voice software; and developing a totally online asynchronous speech course.
Dr. Clerkin has served as a Professor of English, Speech, and Literature at Berkeley College from the summer of 1984 to the present. She has been the Coordinator of Online Faculty Support since 2002. From 2000 to 2003, Dr. Clerkin was an adjunct lecturer in Business English at the Pace University Graduate Center. From 1992 to 2002, she was an adjunct lecturer in Literature and Communications at Pace University.

Developed Road to Success in Online Learning, a required course for new online students and Road to Success in Online Teaching, a required course for new online professors.
Developed material for on-site and online workshops.
Developed and maintains the Online Faculty Resource Center (includes discussion board where online faculty can share ideas and effective practices).
Presents Berkeley College’s innovative online teaching and learning methods at national and international conferences.

In May 2007, the USDLA awarded Dr. Clerkin the Best Practices Gold Award for Distance Learning Teaching Online in Online Higher Education, which recognizes individuals whose programs demonstrate extraordinary achievement in scholarly research and writing, leadership, and service.

In 2006, Dr. Clerkin won the Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology Award from The International Conference on College Teaching and Learning.
In 2005, Dr. Clerkin was recognized by Berkeley College with the President’s Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service to the College Community.
Member of the USDLA 2009 Conference Planning Committee; Member of the USDLA 2009 Distance Learning Week Committee; Serves on the Steering Committee of NEConnect (an organization of professionals located throughout the northeast, and interested in the development of new approaches to online teaching); Member of the Teaching and Learning Planning Committee of the Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications (an organization that promotes and advances the effective use of technology in higher education); Member of the Faculty CIG Committee of WCET; Member of the WCET Book Club Committee; Program Chair of the USDLA 2008 Conference; Served as Blackboard Exemplary Course evaluator for the Blackboard Exemplary Course Program.
Dr. Clerkin holds a Doctor of Arts (DA) degree from St. John’s University, where she was the recipient of a Doctor of Arts Fellowship throughout her course of study; two Master’s degrees (MA) in English, a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), and a BA from Manhattanville College.
