Berkeley College Graduate Launches Hawaiian Travel Media Company
Jason Cutinella earned a B.B.A. in Marketing from Berkeley College in 2000, later earning an M.A. in Communication and Media Studies from Hawaii Pacific University in 2007. However, it was during his time taking classes at Berkeley College in Midtown Manhattan that he strengthened his global understanding of international business, which would help him create Hawaiian travel media company Nella Media Group (NMG).
Mr. Cutinella got his start in the media world at McCann Erickson Worldwide as a media buyer for Sony Pictures, later transitioning to the client side of the business at Sony Music International. While attending Hawaii Pacific University, he started Heavywater Magazine before launching NMG in 2009.
NMG began as a publisher of an urban newspaper for Honolulu’s Chinatown district, and has grown as a media business leader for the Pacific region. According to the company, its range of titles aims to showcase the beauty and diversity of Hawaii, reaching both local and international audiences through licensing programs, in-house publications, and custom publications. NMG also serves as a representative for Ink, whose portfolio has 31 international titles, including in-flight titles for United Airlines and American Airlines.
“My dream was always to start my own media company, and that is what I have done,” said Mr. Cutinella, who also serves as NMG’s CEO. “It’s truly an amazing feeling and I would not trade it for anything else in the world.”
