Berkeley College Lyndsay Wright

Alumna Uses Skills Learned at Berkeley College to Advance in the Workplace

Lyndsay Wright’s philosophy in life is to make the most of every opportunity. That mindset served her well as an honors student at Berkeley College. It also paid big dividends when she served as a marketing intern at Dauphin North America in Boonton, NJ.

Ms. Wright graduated from Berkeley College with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing in 2011. Shortly afterwards, Dauphin North America, a manufacturer of office seating, hired her part-time as a Marketing Associate. Just five months later, she was hired full-time to head up the Marketing Department at the Lantek Corporation. The Lake Hopatcong, NJ, company specializes in supplying obsolete and hard-to-find electromechanical components and electronic parts to manufacturers worldwide.

“Lantek is a global company, and up until recently it relied totally on the Marketing Department of the branch in the United Kingdom,” Ms. Wright said. “When I came on board, the company was very consistent with doing the same things each and every month. That’s not really my style. I think outside the box – a skill I learned from my professors at Berkeley College.”

One of Ms. Wright’s first initiatives was to create an introductory video for the company’s website to help customers get a better grasp of the company’s mission. The theme of her first marketing promotion was Earth Day. That was quickly followed by a campaign aimed at the Summer Olympics audience. Both initiatives won the praise of her supervisor and the company’s sales team.

Ms. Wright’s success came as no surprise to Carol Smith, Assistant Provost, Berkeley College Online. Ms. Smith was the alumna’s advisor when she first enrolled as an on-site student at Berkeley College in Woodland Park, NJ, and later as she completed her degree through Berkeley College Online.

“From the moment that Lyndsay came to Berkeley College, she struck me as a conscientious, motivated individual, who would not let anything stop her from achieving her goals,” Ms. Smith said. “Lyndsay excelled in all of her courses. She always had her eye on the future, and asked probing questions about the marketing industry.”

As a student blogger for Berkeley College, Ms. Wright worked closely with the College’s Social Media Coordinator. She took these social media skills into the workplace. Today, marketing students at Berkeley can learn these skills in the Marketing Communications degree program. In addition to her other job responsibilities, Ms. Wright blogs for the Lantek Corporation and has set up Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts that are incorporated into employee signatures.

“Having a strong social media presence is an extremely important component of any marketing plan today,” Ms. Wright said.
