Ronald Hurley was appointed as Director of Public Safety in 2011. In this role, he implements public safety policies and procedures and emergency management plans and develops crime prevention and special event programs for the benefit of students and staff. Mr. Hurley serves as Chair for the Safety and Security Advisory Committee that is responsible for reviewing security and safety practices at Berkeley College.
Previously, Mr. Hurley served two years as Assistant Director of Public Safety at New Jersey City University (NJCU) in Jersey City, NJ. He is a veteran of the Jersey City Police Department, where he served 27 years as a Police Detective performing criminal and non-criminal investigations, providing security for the Jersey City Mayor’s Office and for City Hall, and serving as an instructor for the Jersey City Police Academy.
Mr. Hurley has a B.S. in Criminal Justice and an M.S. in Professional Security Studies, both from NJCU. He is a Board Certified Protection Professional through ASIS International; a New Jersey Licensed Private Investigator, and an Information Systems Security Officer through the National Security Agency. Mr. Hurley serves as the Assistant Regional Vice President for ASIS International and is a member of the New Jersey College and University Public Safety Association, the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, and the International Association of Emergency Managers.
