Director of Public Safety

Stephen Durkin is Berkeley College’s Director of Public Safety. He brings to this post 27 years of experience with Kearny, NJ Police Department, from which he retired as Captain. He received numerous departmental awards and citations throughout his career and was recognized twice by the Hudson County YM/YWCA for Outstanding Community Service.

Mr. Durkin is an FDNY-certified Fire Safety Director, ALICE-certified instructor for responding to active shooter events, and maintains many training certifications, including CPR/AED and First Aid.

A graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, Mr. Durkin is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the New Jersey College and University Public Safety Association and the FBI national Academy Associates.

Mr. Durkin holds a B.A. from Saint Peter’s University and a Master of Administrative Science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
