Students will be learning and practicing direct patient care throughout the Patient Care Technician program. Students will also be involved in procedures such as venipuncture. Since these procedures are invasive, there is the potential risk of exposure to hepatitis, HIV, and other diseases. Students will be introduced to the Universal Precautions recommended by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Students are expected to follow these recommendations in their contact with all clients/patients in a clinical setting. It is very important that students follow all established rules and procedures for their protection and the protection of others.
