To qualify for graduation, students must pass all Medical Insurance, Billing, and Coding (MBC) courses and Medical Terminology with a minimum grade of C, pass Anatomy and Physiology I and II with a minimum grade of C+, and participate in the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) certification examination. Students also are strongly encouraged to register for and participate in the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification examination. Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania do not require individuals to obtain the CPC credential before becoming eligible for employment. The College has not made a determination with respect to certification requirements of other states. Employers may require the CPC credential or prefer candidates who have obtained the CPC credential.
Eligibility for internships required to obtain a Berkeley College degree and employment opportunities in the healthcare field may be contingent upon the results of a criminal history background check as well as a post-offer medical examination, which may include drug and alcohol testing, and receipt of satisfactory references. Applicants for whom such requirements may be matters of concern are strongly advised to contact an Admissions Associate prior to enrolling in this program.
