Clinical Site and Preceptorship Requirements

At least 60 days prior to enrolling in any clinical course, each MSN student must show proof of possessing a New Jersey RN license or an RN license from a state that is included in the Nurse Licensure Compact of the Interstate Commission of Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators (ICNLCA).

Berkeley College is responsible for coordinating all clinical experiences and ensuring that students are placed with qualified preceptors in appropriate clinical settings. The MSN Program Director and Clinical Coordinator oversee the clinical placement process, including the identification and approval of clinical sites and preceptors.

Students are encouraged to actively participate in the placement process by identifying and recommending potential clinical sites and preceptors. Any site or preceptor identified by a student is subject to review and approval by the Graduate Nursing Department. The College retains final responsibility for ensuring that each clinical placement meets program, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.

A current affiliation agreement between Berkeley College and the clinical facility must be fully executed prior to the start of any clinical experience. Students may not begin accruing clinical hours until the clinical site, preceptor, and required agreements have been approved by the College.

Clinical experiences must be completed in approved primary care settings appropriate to the objectives and student learning outcomes of the designated practicum. Examples may include physician practices, primary care offices, outpatient clinics, and other approved ambulatory care settings.

Students who identify a potential clinical site or preceptor should consult with the MSN Program Director or Clinical Coordinator before making arrangements or commitments. This allows the College to verify the appropriateness of the clinical experience, preceptor qualifications, and the status of the required affiliation agreement.

All clinical sites and preceptors require approval by the Graduate Nursing Department prior to placement. Clinical rotations must be completed at approved facilities located within the State of New Jersey.
