COLLEGE AND PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Objectives 1 through 6 are the College Learning Objectives. The remaining objectives are the Program Learning Objectives.


1. Reading and Written Communication: Students will demonstrate competency in reading and writing.

2. Oral Communication: Students will demonstrate effective oral communication skills that incorporate emotional intelligence, empathy, and civility.

3. Critical Analysis and Reasoning: Students will apply critical thinking and the knowledge gained in their degree programs for better decision-making informed by:

Patient Care Technician Specialization


  1. Provide students with a solid foundation in general sciences to provide safe and effective care across the life
    span to patients in a variety of healthcare settings.
  2. Provide students with the knowledge and skills to work collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to provide patient care and manage medical emergencies.
  3. Ensure students enter the workforce as qualified and technically skilled healthcare professionals in the
    ever-changing healthcare environment.
  4. Provide students with the knowledge and skills required for pursuing professional certification offered in the field including certified patient care technician (CPCT), certified electrocardiography technician (CET), and/or
    certified phlebotomy technician (CPT).
  5. Educate students regarding the ethical, legal, and professional principles of the healthcare profession and
    the scope of their practice as a patient advocate.
  6. Instruct students to employ HIPAA, OSHA, Standard Precautions, and other infection control measures in the
    healthcare setting.
  7. Prepare students to effectively interact with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team in a
    therapeutic and professional manner.
  8. Prepare graduates for success in career advancement.

Sterile Processing Technician Specialization


  1. Prepare students for successful completion of the Certified Registered Central Service Technician exam,
    administered by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), formerly the International Association
    of Healthcare Central Services Materiel Management (IAHCSMM).
  2. Ensure students enter the workforce as qualified and technically skilled healthcare professionals in the
    ever-changing healthcare environment.
  3. Instruct students to employ HIPAA, OSHA, Standard Precautions, and other infection control measures in the healthcare setting.
  4. Prepare students to effectively interact with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team in a
    therapeutic and professional manner.
  5. Educate students to prepare and assemble instruments for distribution, and to process supplies and equipment from operating rooms and nursing units throughout the healthcare facility.
  6. Provide students with a background in the basic sciences and a mastery of decontamination and
    sterilization processes.
  7. Educate students regarding the ethical, legal, and professional principles of the healthcare profession
    and the scope of their practice as a patient advocate.
  8. Prepare graduates for success in career advancement.
