Do you have a passion for design? Have you ever wanted to create beautiful and functional environments for living and working? The Interior Design Certificate Program at Berkeley College can be a great way to start!
Adults with a high school diploma or its equivalent are welcome to enroll for this certificate program. There is a short registration form, but no formal acceptance process.
Berkeley College’s Interior Design Certificate Program focuses on the fundamental skills and knowledge needed in the interior design and architectural fields. These include drafting techniques, sketching, color, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), materials, textiles, and finishes.
The Interior Design Certificate Program is offered at our Paramus campus.
When registering for the Interior Design Certificate Program, please be sure to select “Day” or “Evening”, then “Paramus” as the location you’d like to attend and “Non-Degree” as the degree level.
The Interior Design Certificate Program can be completed in two semesters taking two 15-week courses (six credits) each semester.
Students may register now for the Interior Design Certificate programs that begin in the Fall or Winter Semesters.
The 12-credit Interior Design Certificate Program (four courses of three credits each) costs $2,895.
Semester 1The 12 credits earned in the Interior Design Certificate Program will count toward the A.A.S. and B.F.A. programs after students apply and are accepted into either one of the degree programs.
INT1100 Architectural Visualization
Provides a foundation in the graphic language used to represent interior spaces by using drafting techniques and the proper use of drafting materials and tools. Topics include floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, perspectives, standard symbols, scale, and line weight.
INT1110 Sketching and Color Composition
Introduces the development of basic freehand sketches. This course emphasizes quick sketch techniques and rapid 3-D visualization. Students learn a variety of drawing media, rendering techniques, and color theory and fundamentals for visually communicating design concepts.
INT1150 CAD I
Introduces AutoCAD as a drafting tool. Students learn to use CAD to create and edit plans, elevations, and section views of designs for use in design studies and presentations. Students also learn presentation styles, drawing organization, and other techniques used in professional practice.
Prerequisite: INT1100
INT2230 Materials, Textiles, and Finishes
This course emphasizes the basic materials and goods specified by the interior designer. Explores the manufacturing process and properties of materials and finishes; to guide us in the appropriate selection, specification, application, and installation, to enhance the beauty and functionality of the interior environment.
