Specimen Collection and Procedures

An introduction to the methods and techniques of phlebotomy.

In this single course (3 credits) learners will gain the skills necessary for performing venipuncture and capillary (finger) sticks for drawing and processing blood samples. Learners also will be introduced to the following topics:

  • A variety of laboratory procedures
  • OSHA Standards
  • CLIA Waiver Test
  • Point of Care Testing (PoCT)

All topics explored in this course prepare learners for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification examination offered through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Available in a combination of online and onsite instruction. The course is three (3) credit hours (30 hours lecture, 30 hours mandatory onsite lab component). Credits may be applied toward a degree program offered within the School of Health Studies.

Specimen Collection and Procedures 3 credits Cost $1,410

The following costs are included in the fee for the Specimen Collection and Procedures course:

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification exam offered through the NHA
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification exam review
  • Required E-text
  • Lab fees
