Cynthia Caruso

Outstanding Student Award Recipient

While she’s many things to many people, Cynthia Caruso’s greatest title is Mom. She’s had to be strong in the face of adversity. She came to Berkeley to show her son that hard work pays off, and despite being 40 years old, it was not too late.

With inspiration from her sister, Cynthia realized she could take on the challenge of online learning and soar. She quickly learned that even as an online student, you are more than just a number at Berkeley. She felt encouragement every step of the way, and believes it allowed her to reach heights she never imagined.

Today, Cynthia graduates with a Bachelor’s in Health Services Management. She has achieved Dean’s or President’s List honors each semester and was inducted to Alpha Sigma Lambda. She has been a peer mentor, served on the Student Advisory Board, and as an online ambassador at Middle States Accreditation.

Cynthia has accepted an invitation to be part of the Berkeley College Online Advisory Board. She hopes to work for a prominent hospital and will continue to serve the community through Berkeley Cares projects.

The following quote from Beyoncé perfectly summarizes Cynthia’s achievements: “Don’t try to lessen yourself for the world; let the world catch up to you.”
