Transition from Task Force to Advisory Committee

The Berkeley College Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force (DEITF) was founded in August 2020 to ensure Berkeley College maintains an active role in cultivating and sustaining a culture for education, advancement, and career development that is reflective of the College’s diversity and mission. The DEITF was instrumental in heightening awareness and implementing DEI initiatives that are inclusive and touch on all areas of Berkeley College. The DEITF submitted its recommendations to the President in the spring of 2021 following a Climate Survey of Faculty and Staff and a Climate Survey of Students administered by the Task Force.

The DEITF, at the invitation of Co-Chair Moya Bansile, Esq., invited Interim President Diane Recinos, Ed.D., to its first meeting of 2022 held on January 21. A summary of the Campus Climate Survey was presented to Dr. Recinos by Byron Hargrove, Ph.D. During the meeting Dr. Recinos expressed her support of the DEITF’s work and her vision for the future. In order to build on the foundation established by the DEITF, Dr. Recinos said that since the Task Force submitted its recommendations and fulfilled its initial purpose, she would like to integrate this important work into a newly established Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Advisory Committee. The DEITF members will continue serving the College as members of the DEI Advisory Committee.

The first meeting of the DEI Advisory Committee was held on Friday, February 18, 2022.
