Academic Partnerships
To make higher education more accessible and affordable, Berkeley College collaborates with high schools to provide college-level courses to qualified students. Courses may be offered at the high school, at one of the Berkeley College campuses, or through Berkeley College Online®. Students should consult their high school guidance counselors for Dual Enrollment application procedures and more information.
High school students who take college courses are more likely to attend and graduate from college than those who do not, according to a report by Boston-based education nonprofit organization Jobs for the Future.
These are just some of the ways students can benefit:
- Students can “test the waters” of college learning and explore potential career fields
- Students may earn credits toward a college degree or certificate program. Participating high schools may permit such credits to apply to the students’ high school diplomas.
- Students who complete a full semester (at least 12 credits) of coursework can reduce the time and cost required to complete a degree or certificate program.
- Berkeley College Grants are available to assist students participating in Dual Enrollment. Award amounts are subject to agreement.
Berkeley College Academic Partnership Mission Statement:
Berkeley College is committed to establishing and growing partnerships with educational institutions and organizations that support the academic success and college degree completion for today’s students.
We strive to create a student-centered “culture of transfer,” which is seamless and cost-effective for the students. It is designed to bring institutions together in pursuit of common educational goals.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Students must attend a high school that has entered into agreement with Berkeley College to participate in Dual Enrollment.
- Students must be juniors or seniors. Exceptions may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and are subject to approval by Berkeley College.
- Students must be approved by a high school guidance counselor or other school official based on their ability to handle college-level coursework.
- Students must have completed any applicable prerequisites prior to enrolling in certain Berkeley College courses.
- Students under the age of 18 must obtain permission from their parents or legal guardians in order to register for a course.
- Students taking Berkeley College courses at their high school must earn a grade of “C” or higher in order to earn credit*.
*Grade minimums may vary for select courses in the School of Health Studies.
Application and Fees
Students are required to submit a Dual Enrollment Application and provide payment for required course fees (after any applicable Berkeley College grants have been applied). Applications and payment must be submitted to the Executive Director of Academic Partnerships. Course fees may be paid by each individual student or the high school (on behalf of a group of students). Course fees are payable in advance.
Students taking Dual Enrollment courses at their high school may be required to purchase and use traditional textbooks.
Credits and Transcripts
Upon successful completion of each course, students will receive an unofficial transcript from Berkeley College. A student may obtain an official transcript from Berkeley College by submitting a written request to the Registrar’s Office along with a copy of his or her high school diploma. Participation in Dual Enrollment does not guarantee future admission to Berkeley College.
Although credits earned at Berkeley College are typically accepted as transfer credits by other colleges, the decision to award transfer credit is solely within the discretion of the receiving institution. Students are advised to consult with the college to which they may seek to apply or transfer.
Refunds
In the event of withdrawal, students taking courses at a Berkeley College campus or through Berkeley College Online® shall receive refunds in accordance with the Berkeley College Tuition Refund Policy as reflected in the Undergraduate Catalog.
Students taking courses at their high school are eligible for refunds if they withdraw within the first two (2) weeks of the course. No refund shall be issued after the second week.
