ESL Pathway to Berkeley College - Conditional Admission
Study English at Berkeley College in New York City to prepare yourself for an undergraduate degree. If you are below our required English levels or have not taken an English test, you can be granted conditional admission to study ESL with our on-campus partner school, Rennert International, before your degree program. Short-Term Study Abroad at Berkeley College for a Semester
Living and studying in New York City is a great experience with a short-term study option at Berkeley College. You will earn college credit for each course without committing to complete a degree program. International Student Department
Berkeley's International Student Department provides personal help with SEVIS I-20 or F-1 Student Visa procedures, housing information, orientation to college life, and adjusting to educational practices and life in the United States.

How to Apply for Undergraduate Admission
International Undergraduate Checklist
Please review the application requirements and process to be sure you have all necessary documents and information. Assistance is available through the International Student Office.
Required Documents:
- International Application
- $50 (U.S.) Application Fee
- Official secondary or post-secondary transcripts (with certified English translations) and proof of graduation
- Proof of English language proficiency:
- TOEFL - score of 500 PBT, 61 IBT
- IELTS - score of 5.5 or higher
- Rennert International - Level 6
- Kaplan - High Intermediate
- Kaplan Test of English (KTE - 410 or 478) (booking form - BERKKRS25 for a 25% credit)
- Duolingo - 90 or above
- ELS - Level 112
- APIEL - grade 3 or higher
- English for Sweden - minimum grade of VG or C
- English for Norway - level 4
- iTEP - score of 5 or above
- Michigan Language Assessment - MET 53 or MELAB 78
- Oxford ELLT - Level 5 Oxford ELLT Registration Form (Discount Code for a $55 credit: BER95)
- Pearsons - score of 43 or higher
- STEP - score 2A or higher
- TOEIC - score 575 or higher
- Cambridge English - B2 First, C1 Advanced
To Confirm Admission and I-20 issuance:
- $300 (U.S.) Tuition Deposit
- $100 (U.S.) International Processing Fee
- Financial documentation (showing at least $42,000 in available funds)
How to Apply for Graduate Admission

Please review the application requirements and process to be sure you have all necessary documents and information. Assistance is available through the International Student Office.
Required Documents:
- International Application
- $50 (U.S.) Application Fee
- Official transcripts from all undergraduate institutions (with certified English translations) and proof of graduation
- Proof of English language proficiency(other acceptable English exams listed above):
- TOEFL - score of 80 IBT or higher
- IELTS - score of 6.5 or higher
- Duolingo - 105 or above
- Resume (a minimum of two years of professional employment is preferred)
- Two letters of recommendation
- Personal statement
- Application for transfer credit (if a student is seeking transfer credit from another graduate institution)
- Financial support documentation (showing at least $42,000)
To Confirm Admission:
- $300 (U.S.) Tuition Deposit
- $100 (U.S.) International Processing Fee
Student Visa Requirements
To apply for a SEVIS I-20 (which is needed to obtain an F-1 student visa), students must satisfy to the College, based on visa regulations, that sufficient finances are available to pay for tuition and living expenses. This can be verified by a certified bank statement showing $42,000 from your sponsor. Once accepted to Berkeley, the SEVIS I-20 is sent with the Acceptance Package.
International Club
The International Club provides a special forum for the specific needs and interests of international students. It organizes social and cultural activities, including field trips, that acquaint international students with life in America. The get-acquainted meetings often include a trip to the United Nations. Additional activities, such as international festivals, are organized by students at individual locations.
