Newark Promise Grant
High school, adult, transfer students, and VA Benefit recipients who are qualified residents of Essex County, NJ, may be able to enroll in a full-time Associate’s degree program at the Berkeley College Newark campus—without incurring any loans for tuition and fees!. Qualified recipients can continue to receive this grant if they are NJ state residents, graduate and continue attending Berkeley College New Jersey or NJ Online as a full-time student in any Bachelor’s degree program. Associate's degree students must be in one of the following programs:
- Business Administration - Management
- Health Services Management
- Information Technology Management
- Justice Studies - Criminal Justice
- Health Services Administration – Medical Insurance, Billing, and Coding
- Medical Assistant
- Health Sciences
Restrictions: Cannot be combined with any other Berkeley College grants or scholarships.
To qualify for this program, you must:
- Satisfy Berkeley College admissions requirements and be accepted to the College.
- Have sufficient federal and state financial aid lifetime eligibility to complete an Associate’s degree.
- Complete a FAFSA each new aid year by January 1st and be eligible for the maximum Federal Pell Grant and the maximum NJ Tuition Aid Grant.
- Complete all federal and state verification requirements before the semester begins.
- Be a full‐time student and maintain federal and state satisfactory academic progress each semester.
- Have valid proof of Essex County, NJ residency at the time financial aid is determined.
- Must maintain full-time, continuous, consecutive term enrollment – You cannot regain eligibility upon readmission.
Qualified students will receive a Berkeley College Newark Promise Grant to cover tuition and fees after all federal and state grants have been applied.
To remain in the program and renew the grant, you must:
- Maintain full-time, continuous, consecutive term enrollment - You cannot regain eligibility upon readmission.
- Maintain federal and state satisfactory academic progress each semester.
- Completed FAFSA and complete all federal and state verification requirements before the semester begins.

Students who complete their Associate’s degree in Management, Information Technology Management, Health Services Administration/Management, and Justice Studies can complete their Bachelor’s degree online or at the Woodland Park campus if they continue to meet the program criteria and have sufficient federal and state financial aid eligibility to complete a Bachelor’s degree.
