March 19, 2020

Dear Students,

I am writing to you today with an update on Berkeley College’s Commencement ceremony amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commencement is the best day of the year on the Berkeley College calendar. It is therefore with disappointment that I announce the necessary decision to not hold Commencement at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Friday, May 8, 2020. This decision was made in accordance with social distancing guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s directive to further limit large gatherings for the foreseeable future.

The Student Development and Campus Life (SDCL) team is evaluating alternative options for Commencement in order to properly recognize all of our graduates on their remarkable accomplishments. We will keep you updated as these plans are finalized. The safety of students, faculty, and staff is always our most important consideration.

Despite the uncertainty of the current time, I encourage you to stay positive and to take care of yourself.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Smith
President
