Message to Students: On-site Courses in New Jersey and New York to Move Online

Office of President
March 12, 2020

Dear Berkeley College Students,

Berkeley College learned late Wednesday evening, March 11, 2020, that a member of the Berkeley College New York City community recently tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. A Berk-Alert was issued to inform the College community.

College administrators have been in communication with New York State and City health officials.

Both campus buildings at 41st Street and 43rd Street in New York City are undergoing a thorough and extensive cleaning and will reopen on Saturday, March 14, 2020.

New York City and White Plains on-site classes will move online as of Monday, March 16, 2020.

In New York

The New York City campus is closed today and Friday, March 13, for students, faculty, and staff. The New York City campus buildings, as well as the White Plains campus, will be open and staffed for students who would like to utilize on-site support services such as the Library, Career Services, the Center for Academic Success and computer labs again on Monday, March 16.

In New Jersey

All New Jersey campuses (Newark, Paramus, Woodbridge and Woodland Park), will suspend on-site classes beginning Friday, March 13. Course instruction will be delivered online for the remainder of the winter semester beginning on Tuesday, March 17. Students with questions about their courses should check Canvas and remain in touch with their professors.

All New Jersey campus buildings will continue to be open and staffed for students who would like to utilize on-site support services such as the Library, Career Services, the Center for Academic Success and computer labs throughout the semester.

The College continues to monitor the status of coronavirus COVID-19. Since the onset of the crisis, Berkeley College has been sanitizing and extensively cleaning its facilities on an ongoing basis to minimize risks to our Berkeley community and to ensure the seamless delivery of teaching and learning to our students.

Campus Events

Most Berkeley College-sponsored on-campus events have been cancelled, postponed, or moved virtually through the end of March.

White Plains Residential Students

Although residence facilities will remain open, Berkeley College is encouraging its residence students at the White Plains campus to leave the campus for the remainder of the semester and continue their coursework online. White Plains is the only campus in the Berkeley College system with student housing.

Our Campus Operations and Student Development and Campus Life (SDCL) teams are on hand to assist all students with any questions and moves.

To receive future emergency updates, please be sure that your Berk-Alert information is up-to-date.

Visit the Berkeley College website for important resources on college policies, a Frequently Asked Questions document, travel guidelines, and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.

Our goal is to ensure minimal interruption to your learning experience. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding during these times.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Smith
President
