“Heroes in Need of Heroes and their Stories,” will highlight veterans with disabilities at a free virtual forum hosted by Berkeley College in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness month on October 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. The guest speakers will present male and female veteran points of view that include resilience through their service, disability and employment experiences. A question-and-answer session will follow.

“This is an important event to attend,” said Sharon McLennon-Wier, PhD, CRC, LMHC, Berkeley College Director of Disability Services, “because according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (in 2019), "4.7 million veterans, or 25 percent of the total veteran population, had a service-connected disability."

Guest speakers are, top row, L to R,: Earl Lundy, United States Army; Amanda Cherry, Iowa Army National Guard; and Matthew Sparks, United States Air Force and National Guard. Bottom row, L to R: Vanessa Hughes, United States Marine Corps and Firefighter; Gregory Sanchez, United States Marine Corps; and Elana Duffy, United States Army.

Berkeley College presenters include McLennon-Wier; Edward Dennis, Assistant Vice President, Office of Military and Veterans Affairs; and Diane Recinos, EdD, Senior Vice President of Student Success.
