HR Business Partner at Spencer Savings Bank Applies Skills Honed in Berkeley College MBA Program

to Navigate Complex Business Environments

Berkeley Glazewski

Justyna Glazewski, a Human Resources (HR) Business Partner with Spencer Savings Bank, is pursuing her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a concentration in Human Resources Management, through her company’s Corporate Learning Partnership with Berkeley College.

Glazewski recently shared the importance of perseverance and how an advanced degree will help her achieve her short- and long-term career goals.

Q: What was your motivation to pursue an advanced degree?

I felt motivated to earn a Master’s degree with a concentration in Human Resources to develop more of my essential skills and experience. Education can help me build a more creative and developed intellect. Working as an HR Business Partner allows me to learn about an organization and its psychology. This is why HR is appointed to recruit new talent, which is a stepping stone for an organization to succeed. I am highly motivated and self-focused, and an MBA is the right course. HR management professionals are valuable assets to an organization, ensuring future job stability even if the economy fails.

Q: In what ways has Spencer Savings Bank’s Corporate Learning Partnership with Berkeley College been a benefit as you continue your education?

Thanks to Spencer Savings Bank'’ Corporate Learning Partnership with Berkeley College, I can save 30 percent off my tuition. Because of the discount, I can take more classes and still stay within my annual tuition reimbursement budget offered by my employer. 

Q: What are your short- and long-term career goals?

My short-term goals are to acquire new skills and improve existing ones relevant to my field – networking, building professional relationships, expanding my network, and moving to a higher role in the future. My long-term goals are to receive professional credentials, become highly trained in a particular skill area, and gain more industry experience in HR.

Q: What courses or strategies are you finding most valuable in your current role?

MBA programs provide a comprehensive understanding of business principles, including finance, marketing, operations, and strategy. This knowledge equips me to make informed decisions and navigate complex business environments. All courses are very valuable and applicable to my work field.

What is your advice to other professionals considering an advanced degree or continuing education?

It is not easy to juggle full-time work, being a wife and a mom of three boys, and now pursuing an MBA, where I need to commit at least 20 hours a week to studying and coursework. Balancing work, family, and education can be challenging, but my determination and positive mindset will hopefully carry me through.

As they say, “No one can take your knowledge away from you.” If I can do it, you can, too.  Remember, perseverance is key.
