Steven Villaran, Berkeley College alumnus says success is an ongoing process of self-improvement and professional growth.

Villaran is a Vice President and Senior Relationship Manager at City National Bank’s Personal and Business Banking Team in New York, providing financial solutions to help clients achieve their financial objectives.

Berkeley College helped lay the foundation for his successful career. “Berkeley College played a critical role in my success as a professional today,” Villaran said. “At the start of enrollment, I lacked direction as an individual, but I got on track via the community that Berkeley College provided. I am forever thankful to Berkeley College and the wonderful professors who changed my life.”

Villaran graduated from Berkeley College’s New York City campus in 2006 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management. He has a Master of Science in Management with a Certificate in Strategic Leadership and Management and in 2025 will complete his MBA in Strategic Leadership and Entrepreneurship at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.

He serves as a board member of the Berkeley College Finance Advisory Board. Advisory boards are an integral part of all Berkeley College degree programs that meet regularly to update program curricula to ensure current industry demands are met and graduates have the skills employers seek.

Villaran advocates for supporting underserved communities and student leadership. He serves as the Executive Vice President of Corporate Development for ALPFA NY, an Advisory Board Member for the New York Latino Film Festival, and a Board Member for Queens Community Board 8.

“My advice to college students is to focus on becoming a better version of themselves daily," he said. "Oftentimes, we can get caught up in what others are doing, but we all have different paths to success.”
