Dario A. Cortes
Senior Vice President, Strategic Alliances
Dario A. Cortes, Ph.D., was appointed Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances in September 2015. In this role, he helps strengthen Berkeley College’s presence and reputation in New York City and in higher education as well as helps establish new relationships that will benefit both Berkeley College and the diverse communities it serves.
Dr. Cortes served as President of Berkeley College from 2008 through 2015. Prior to joining Berkeley College, he held several senior level administrative positions including the President and Executive Director of the American School Foundation in Mexico City, Mexico; Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, NY; Dean at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ; and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD.
Dr. Cortes is an accomplished author, lecturer and conference leader. He is active in many community, civic, and professional organizations. He was reappointed Commissioner of Middle States in 2016 and serves on the Board of One to World and the Manuel Rojas Foundation in Chile. He served on the American Council on Education taskforce that looked at national regional accreditation and served on the Middle States committee that revised the news standards in 2014. He also served on the Executive Committee of the New Jersey President’s Council, the Board of Delegates of the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey, the Corporate Advisory Council of the Morris County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Hispanic Education Technology Services.
Dr. Cortes completed post-doctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA; Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; and Teachers College at Columbia University, New York, NY, where he was a Klingenstein Fellow in 2008. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, IL; a Master’s degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA; and a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Education from Queens College, City University of New York, NY.
