This month, Berkeley College will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with events that remember and honor the victims, survivors and heroes.
“Berkeley College joins New York City and the entire country in remembering the September 11, 2001, attacks, a day that left an indelible impression on all Americans,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College. “We once again honor the memories of 15 members of the Berkeley College community whose lives were tragically lost on that day. We will never forget the events of September 11.”
The following events are open to Berkeley College students, faculty, staff and alumni:
20 Years Later: Stories and Discussions of the Day that Changed America – On Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 6 p.m., Berkeley College will host a virtual discussion with members of the Berkeley College community about the events of 9/11. Panelists include Robert Maguire, Assistant Vice President, Public Safety and Emergency Management; Geralyn Cappelli, Faculty, Larry L. Luing School of Business®; John Grant, Faculty, School of Professional Studies; and Katherine Pereira, Regional Camp Manager, Comfort Zone Camp. The event is hosted by the Office of Student Development and Campus Life, the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs, and the Legal Studies and Justice Studies departments.
Visit to 9/11 Museum and Memorial – Students and alumni will visit the 9/11 Museum and Memorial on September 13, 2021.
9/11 Virtual Tribute Board – The Berkeley College community is invited to share their stories and remembrances of 9/11 through the virtual Padlet platform.
9/11 Day of Service – Berkeley College students, alumni, faculty and staff can serve the community with on-site and virtual service initiatives in honor of 9/11. The nonprofit 9/11 Day organization will host the #ShineALight campaign, seeking to reach 20 million good deeds. Americorps also offers a searchable database for volunteerism.
