With the sudden rise in popularity of artificial intelligence (AI) programs, Michael Matos, IT Manager of Training, Atlantic Health System, knows the future has arrived. Matos has embraced new technologies including AI throughout his 30-year career in healthcare. Matos is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management through Atlantic Health System’s Corporate Learning Partnership with Berkeley College, which provides employer benefits such as discounted tuition and customized training.

“As a champion of innovation and a catalyst for change, I am committed to staying ahead of the curve in the realm of digital learning,” Matos said. He recently shared how Atlantic Health System is embracing innovation, and outlined how AI is changing the landscape of healthcare:

Q: What are some current trends and ways businesses and community organizations are using AI to work smarter?

Throughout my extensive career in healthcare, I have made innovation a cornerstone of my approach, leveraging AI to enhance various aspects of my work. From automating repetitive activities such as data entry and scheduling to providing insights from vast datasets, AI has become an indispensable piece of my toolkit. Additionally, AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants streamline communication and provide quick access to information. Personalized workflows and recommendations, facilitated by AI algorithms, optimize productivity for individuals. AI also assists in organizing information and supporting ongoing learning and development initiatives through personalized training platforms. Overall, AI enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of professionals by automating tasks, providing insights, facilitating communication, and supporting continuous learning.

Q: Current workforce trends reinforce that reskilling in areas such AI are critical. Why do you feel it is important that employees are well trained in the latest technologies?

Last year, I spearheaded an initiative to enhance AI literacy within my team. Together, we created and conducted an AI literacy webinar, empowering team members to understand and harness the potential of AI in their roles. In today’s dynamic job market, reskilling in areas like AI is imperative due to rapid technological advancements. Employees trained in the latest technologies, including AI, remain competitive, adapt to industry changes, and drive innovation within their organizations. With AI’s potential to enhance productivity, well-trained employees can optimize workflows and future-proof their careers. Investing in AI training addresses skills gaps, ensuring organizations stay relevant and competitive in an evolving digital landscape.
