Dr. Hoefinger’s research is interdisciplinary and covers the fields of anthropology, sociology, and cultural studies. Her areas of interest include gender and sexuality, sex work and trafficking, LGBTQ+ issues, drug use, nighttime economies, race, migration, deportation, activism, community organizing, and ‘intimate’ ethnography. She’s interested in the ways in which sexually and socially marginalized people form networks of support and engage in community solidarity and various forms of resistance as a result of the stigma, injustice, structural inequality, and social exclusion they face. 

She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, as well as pieces in periodicals and reports. She has also presented at many conferences and professional events and been extensively featured and interviewed in media coverage.
