Marianne Vakalis, EdD

Marianne Vakalis currently serves as the Dean of the School of Professional Studies, to which position she was appointed in May 2019, and the Dean of the Division of General Education. From May 2022 through July 2023, she also served as the Interim Provost. Her tenure at Berkeley College began as Dean, Academic Affairs for the New York locations in November 2004. In September 2006, Dr. Vakalis was promoted to Vice President, Academic Affairs for the New Jersey locations. She was appointed to the position of Associate Provost, Faculty Affairs in July 2009, served as Interim Provost of Berkeley College from January 2013 to June 2013, and was Provost from July 2013 to June 2015. From July 2015 to May 2019, Dr. Vakalis served as Dean, Strategic Initiatives.

Prior to joining Berkeley College, Dr. Vakalis taught undergraduate and graduate computer science classes at Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, for 10 years. While serving as a faculty member, she also held various administrative positions including Chair of the Computer Science Department; Assistant Dean of the School of Computer & Information Sciences; and Associate Dean of the Ross School of Management & Leadership.

From 1985 to 1992, she also taught computer science classes at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan; first as an instructor for three years, and then while serving as the Assistant to the Department Chair for another four years. Dr. Vakalis first arrived at Western Michigan University from England via a Fulbright grant. In England, she held the rank of Lecturer I for two years and then Lecturer II for three years in the Computer Science Department at Filton Technical College in Bristol.

Dr. Vakalis holds an EdD in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University; an MEd in Educational Technology from the University of Bath, England; and a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Hull, also in England.
