2016 Commencement Speaker: Mildred García, EdD, who served as the first system-wide president of Berkeley College from 2001 to 2007, will deliver the Commencement Address at this year’s ceremony, which begins at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016.
2016 Robert Maher Award Recipient: Student Jeison Martinez, who grew up in poverty in Colombia, will receive the Robert Maher Award, which recognizes a graduate who has met high standards of academic excellence while overcoming personal, professional or financial obstacles.
2016 Alumnus of the Year: Edison Jaques, Berkeley College Class of 2009, is a community organizer and founder of two mentoring organizations.
2016 Student Speaker: Shamira Drakeford credits the real-world lessons of Berkeley College faculty with inspiring her to excel in her studies and earn her degree. Ms. Drakeford was selected to address graduates at this year’s Commencement ceremony.
Meet Our Graduates: Yasin Bond was inspired by his son to pursue an A.A.S. in Business Administration – Management. Waiting on the other side of the graduation stage is a career with NIKE, Inc., where he will be positioned to move up the ranks within the company.
Meet Our Graduates: Farzeena Khan-Ravidatt pursued a degree so she could provide the best for her family. She will graduate with an A.A.S. in Health Services Administration – Medical Insurance, Billing and Coding.
Meet Our Graduates: Melissa DiRubba found her passion in a fusion of fashion and business. She completed a B.B.A. in Fashion Merchandising and Management and was hired as a full-time Merchandising Assistant with NYGÅRD, an apparel manufacturer in New York City’s Garment District.
Meet Our Graduates: Brittney Milk earned a B.B.A. in Marketing Communications. Her college experience helped her transition from living in a small town to living and working in Manhattan, NY.
Meet Our Graduates: U.S. Marine Corps veteran Miguel Sanchez earned a B.B.A. in Financial Services. Now he is working in the field of his choice, supporting a social mission that helps employ post-9/11 veterans.
