Berkeley College received a “Companies That Care” award presented by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ) at a reception held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic on September 30, 2020. The award recognized a program sponsored by the Berkeley College Alumni Leadership Council and the Office of Alumni Relations and Career Services in the category of “Helping Children.” The program collected toys for Our Way to H.O.P.E. (Helping People Out Everywhere), a nonprofit started by alumna Karen Pena. The CIANJ “Companies That Care” awards celebrate those who have made a difference in the lives of others.
“CIANJ’s tradition of recognizing companies that care inspires us to want to give even more during these challenging times,” said Angela Harrington, Vice President, Communications and External Relations, in accepting the award on behalf of Berkeley College. “The event is a great platform to recognize the important work of nonprofits and value of partnering with nonprofits in our communities.”
A highlight of the virtual reception was the inspirational keynote address given by the Hon. Helen LeFrois, Vice President, Development for Jersey Battered Women’s Service, Inc. and Councilwoman, Town of Newton, NJ. Forty-six companies, including leading manufacturers, retailers, hospitals, banks and colleges and universities, were honored as Champions of Good Works at the virtual reception, attended by more than 200 business executives. This year’s categories for submissions included Advocates for the Homeless, Caring for Veterans, Combating Hunger, Emergency Support, Environmental Conservation, Global Outreach, Helping Children, Advocates, Supporting New Jersey Charities and Volunteerism.
