Newark Courses to Transition to Online-Only Modality on Monday, November 16

Office of President Berkeley

November 13, 2020

Dear Berkeley College Community,

The Berkeley College COVID-19 Task Force continues to monitor the health and safety metrics in each of our campus communities to adjust Berkeley’s on-site operations as needed.

The City of Newark is currently reporting an infection rate of 19%, which is more than two times the rate of infection in the State of New Jersey. As a result, all hybrid courses at the Newark campus, with the exception of limited laboratory courses in the School of Health Studies, will transition to an online-only modality beginning on Monday, November 16, 2020, and continue online through the end of the Fall 2020 semester. Students with questions about their hybrid courses should contact their faculty members.

This remote transition is a precautionary measure. While the Newark campus will remain open, including the computer lab, all student support services are accessible remotely, Monday through Friday. If you are planning to visit the Newark campus to meet with a Berkeley College associate/department, please call or email the associate/department before visiting.

Please continue to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for personal hygiene and cleanliness that can help prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses such as COVID-19:

- Practice social distancing (at least 6 feet apart).
- Wear a mask or cloth face covering in public places.
- Self-monitor for a fever, cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19.
- Stay home if you are not feeling well.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol if soap and water are not available.
- Practice good habits for cleanliness such as disinfecting commonly touched surfaces and avoid touching your face.

Stay safe and take good care of yourself and your families.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Smith
President
