Berkeley College graduate Panagiota Babadelis of West New York, NJ, received the 2021 Outstanding Student Award during the College’s virtual Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 7, 2021. Babadelis will also be recognized at an in-person outdoor Commencement ceremony at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, on Thursday, May 27, 2021. The award is presented annually to a graduate who has met high standards of academic excellence while overcoming personal, professional or financial obstacles.

By the time Babadelis decided to attend college three years ago, she had already gained experience in the world of music and entertainment in various roles comprising artist development, management, marketing, public relations, radio production and songwriting. She enrolled at Berkeley College simply to pursue an Associate’s degree in her field of passion, with the notion that she would be able to cross off an item on her “bucket list.”

As the Berkeley College 2021 Outstanding Student of the Year, Babadelis knows she has achieved much more. She earned both her Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees and is pursuing her Master in Business Administration at Berkeley. She became an Honors Program teaching assistant, was inducted into six national honor societies, and founded the Berkeley College Volunteer Leadership Program in 2018, for students to become liaisons through community service, event marketing and management.

In her presentation of the Award to Babadelis during virtual Commencement, Dallas Reed, PhD, Berkeley College Vice President, Student Development and Campus Life, said “You embody strength, courage, wisdom, compassion, humility and so much more … We honor you, we salute you, congratulations.”

Babadelis’ joy and satisfaction to be recognized for her achievements did not come without experiencing tragedy, however. Over the span of five years, she lost her father who battled cancer, her grandfather who helped raise her, and she was diagnosed with a disease that could end her life. This is the experience behind Babadelis’ saying, “The trials and tribulations we are put through are a testament to building strength and character.”

Looking forward, Babadelis hopes to continue working in the field with award-winning artists, producers and composers from all over the world in the realm of entertainment through her artist development company.

Babadelis is one of more than 1,800 Berkeley College graduates being recognized at this year’s Commencement ceremonies.

Berkeley College celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2021. Graduates of the Berkeley College Class of 2021 join a network of more than 60,000 Berkeley College alumni eligible to receive lifetime career assistance.
