Shaniqua Walker, a Bronx, NY, resident, who earned an Associate in Applied Science degree in Health Services Administration from Berkeley College, has a great spirit and an upbeat attitude.  While the last few years of raising four children, ages six through 12, on her own have been challenging, Walker managed to earn an Associate’s degree and complete an internship that led to a part-time job in her field of study. Following an internship at Lower West Side Household Services (LWS), Bronx, a home healthcare company that addresses families’ health concerns, and educational and financial needs, the company offered Walker a position as a Human Resources Assistant.

“It was just what I wanted, and I’ve learned so much already, while helping those less fortunate,” Walker said.

“We’re always pleased with the Berkeley College interns, and Shaniqua is among the best,” Nestor Sanchez, Director of Business Development, LWS, said. “She shows professionalism and is eager to learn. We hired her because she’s the kind of employee we need – a champion for those who need help.”

Walker, who will be continuing her studies at Berkeley College in pursuit of a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Business Administration – Management, said she hopes to continue her career with LWS. “I love the message on the company website – Where Health Matters and Care Begins,” Walker said. “We help the community with their healthcare needs, and that’s the kind of business I want to be associated with for a long time.”

She encourages other Berkeley students to make the most of their time in college. “Berkeley offers plenty of resources,” Walker said. “Make use of those resources to get prepared for your future.

“Berkeley College found a great internship for me and that led to a job offer I was pleased to accept,” Walker said. “I try to concentrate on the good things in my life. My children are healthy, and I look forward to a career in healthcare.”
