David Glazer, PhD, JD, Director of the Berkeley College Master of Business Administration program who spent more than 30 years in financial planning for privately owned businesses, shared how New York City companies can lay the foundations for success during a webinar on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. “Financial Planning for Small Closely-held Businesses” was part of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce Learning Tracks for Business Success webinar series, to assist businesses during New York City’s economic recovery.
During the webinar, Glazer provided tips and resources in the areas of business continuation planning, as well as advised owners on how to leverage their businesses for executive benefits.
“The majority of first-generation businesses do not survive through the second generation,” Glazer said. “A lot of that has to do with the managerial acumen of the second generation, or a lack of planning for that next generation to continue the business.”
Glazer said small businesses – from professional practices to the corner store – are a vital segment of the economy.
“It is the business segment that supplies more than 70 percent of new employment opportunities in this country,” Glazer said. “It is important to organize strategies for small businesses to be able to leverage their business success for themselves, for their employees, and for the continuation of the business to succeeding generations.”
