More than 50 business leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs received inspiration to excel in a challenging business environment during the 2022 Women Entrepreneurs Empowerment Summit (WEES), presented by Latinas in Business, Inc. and hosted by Berkeley College in Midtown Manhattan on Friday, June 24, 2022.
“This organization, Latinas in Business, has been part of my dreams, and I stand proud today for what we have accomplished with your help and the help of many others,” said Susana Baumann, Founder, President and CEO, Latinas in Business, Inc. “We believe in the power of collaboration. We know the only way we have success is when we work together.”
The theme of the 2022 Summit was “SUCCEED! How Women Entrepreneurs Make It in America.” Keynote speakers included Natalie Madeira Cofield, Assistant Administrator, Office of Women’s Business Ownership, U.S. Small Business Administration; comedian Gina Brillon; and a panel of professional women who provided advice and insights to empower minority women business owners.
“Events like today’s Summit open the future to our students by giving them the opportunity to find mentors, gather inspiration, and see people just like them in prominent positions across the professional landscape,” said Diane Recinos, EdD, President of Berkeley College.
The U.S. Small Business Administration estimates that there are 4.65 million Latino-owned companies in the United States, making them the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs in the country.
Recinos noted that Berkeley College has more than 65,000 alumni, many of whom are part of the fabric of the business community. More than half of 2022 Berkeley College graduates who identified their ethnicity in a survey, identify as Hispanic.
“Entrepreneurs have faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, but have shown resilience and commitment to their businesses and customers as they embraced innovation and pivoted to find success,” Recinos said.
Latinas in Business, Inc., also recognized 11 honorees with 2022 WEES Leader Awards, for their roles as advocates in helping women in business overcome barriers to success.
