U.S. News & World Report has ranked Berkeley College – New Jersey among the Best Regional Universities in the North and among the Best Regional Universities for Social Mobility, in its 2022-2023 edition of the Best Colleges Survey. This is the third consecutive year the College has been recognized.

The publication ranked 1,500 colleges and universities nationwide on 17 measures of academic quality. Berkeley College – New Jersey was tied at No. 133 on the Best Regional Universities – North list, and ranked No. 86 on the Best Regional Universities – North list for Social Mobility. The North region includes colleges from the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. In New Jersey, 14 institutions were acknowledged in the Best Regional Universities category, and 11 institutions were acknowledged in the category for Social Mobility. 

“Berkeley College is proud to be named among U.S. News & World Report’s Best Universities in the region for the third consecutive year,” said Diane Recinos, EdD, President of Berkeley College. “This recognition speaks not only to the high-quality education our students receive from our dedicated faculty and staff, but also to the individualized attention and support services that help our students reach the graduation stage.” 

U.S. News & World Report evaluates schools on up to 17 measures of academic quality, including:

  • Average six-year graduation rate
  • Average first-year student retention rate
  • A peer assessment survey of undergraduate academic reputation
  • Faculty resources, like class size, faculty compensation and the student-faculty ratio; financial resources per student, or the average spending per student on instruction, research, student services and related educational expenditures
  • Graduation rate performance, a measure of the actual graduation rate compared to predictions
  • Student selectivity, like SAT scores, high school class standing and acceptance rate
  • Social mobility, measured by the graduation rate of students who received federal Pell Grants
  • Graduate indebtedness, which assesses the accumulated average of education loans students have to pay back after graduation
  • Average alumni giving rate 


A study on income mobility published by The Equality of Opportunity Project at Harvard University in 2017 ranked Berkeley College – New Jersey in the top 4 percent of 2,137 colleges across the nation for overall income mobility.
