City & State New York has recognized Sherrille Shabazz, EdD, Vice President, Student Development and Campus Life and Title IX Coordinator, on its 2022 Responsible 100 list, honoring those committed to creating “real and enduring change” through social responsibility. Shabazz is a resident of Yonkers, NY.
City & State presented awards to leaders of New York’s business, nonprofit, and academic communities during a luncheon at Sony Hall in Manhattan, NY, on Thursday, December 15, 2022. Berkeley College was a co-sponsor of the event.
“New York, much like the nation as a whole, is facing myriad challenges,” wrote Tom Allon, President and Publisher, City & State New York, in a special issue of the magazine. “These business, government, nonprofit, and advocacy leaders, carefully selected from hundreds of nominations, display both the idealism that underpins the belief that change is possible and a realistic understanding of the dedication required to effectuate real and enduring change.”
In her role as Vice President, Student Development and Campus Life, Shabazz provides leadership and vision for all student engagement programs at Berkeley College, including volunteerism and clubs, athletics, counseling, accessibility services, and more. She also serves as Title IX Coordinator and a member of the Berkeley College Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee, ensuring the College sustains a culture that is reflective of its diversity and mission.
“Civic engagement is the central pillar of student success because it enables students to think beyond themselves,” Shabazz said.
Speakers at the Responsible 100 event included Antonio Reynoso, Brooklyn Borough President; Jumaane D. Williams, Public Advocate; and Vanessa Gibson, Bronx Borough President. Diane Recinos, EdD, President of Berkeley College, delivered opening remarks.
“Volunteerism builds confidence and makes our students impactful leaders and global citizens,” Recinos said. “This is evident in our more than 65,000 Berkeley College alumni, many of whom return home after completing their degree to make positive change in their communities.”
