Berkeley College student Victoria Rizzi recently presented her Honors research on sustainable design during the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) 2023 Annual Conference, held from December 4 to 6, 2023, in Philadelphia, PA. Rizzi is a resident of Riverdale, NJ.
Rizzi’s thesis, titled “If These Walls Could Talk: Showcasing How Design Choices Affect Individuals and the Environment,” reveals environmental challenges and solutions in architecture and design. She will graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design in 2024.
Rizzi initially presented her presentation during the Berkeley College Honors Scholars Research Symposium earlier this year. Through the Symposium experience, students hone their professional presentation, critical thinking, and academic writing skills.
“Design has always been a big part of my life,” Rizzi said. “I wanted to pick a topic in my field and further educate myself. I hope that others will realize why they may feel a certain way in a space, and how designers and builders can create better spaces.”
Rizzi was among 80 students from more than 30 colleges and universities selected by the MSCHE to present – as well as the first student from Berkeley College.
“I am so proud of how Victoria took advantage of this learning experience,” said Byron Hargrove, PhD, Director of the Honors Program. “Her poster was truly one of the best ones featured at the Conference and she handled the conversations and questions with confidence and grace.”
