Berkeley College and the Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce focused on the importance of wellness and nutrition during a “Be Well Connected” networking event on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Keynote speaker Kelly Di Fabio-Baldocchi, a registered dietician nutritionist and owner of Hometown Nourished in Iselin, NJ, shared advice on having a healthy relationship with food, including predicting responses to hunger, food synergy, and practicing self-compassion in the face of diet culture.
“Nourishment is how we connect our mind and body,” Di Fabio-Baldocchi told the audience of college officials, business owners, and chamber members. “Getting to the nourished mindset is a practice.”
Jennifer DeJesus, Campus Operating Officer, Berkeley College in Woodbridge, NJ, and Chairperson of the Executive Board of the Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce, said the topic of wellness is universally relevant. “Whether you come from a medical background, a business background, or an educational background, it’s a topic that touches all of us,” DeJesus said.
The event featured blood pressure screenings by students from the Berkeley College School of Health Studies and also shared benefits of the Berkeley College Corporate Learning Partnership program, which offers a 30 percent tuition reduction toward most degree programs to members and their immediate families.
James Marshmon, Director, Student Development and Campus Life and Manager of the Berkeley College Foundation Food Pantries in New Jersey, also spoke about the College’s collaboration with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey through on-campus food pantries to fight food insecurity among students.
