Cotton Incorporated Grant Provides Awards to Winning Projects

Berkeley College Fashion Merchandising and Management students were recognized for their creative educational displays about cotton during Berkeley’s C.L.A.D. (Community, Library, Array, and Display) in Cotton! Gallery Reception on May 30, 2024. Top entries received monetary prizes from a Cotton Incorporated 2024 Cotton in the Curriculum Grant that was awarded to Berkeley College in fall 2023.

The not-for-profit Cotton Incorporated conducts research to benefit the cotton supply chain and encourages the use and desirability of cotton and cotton products.

“The faculty from Berkeley College won a grant from Cotton Incorporated through a national competition,” said Mark Messura, Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain Marketing, Cotton Incorporated. “We are pleased to support their efforts to bring the best in cotton education to their students.”

Berkeley’s C.L.A.D. in Cotton! initiative offered Fashion students a 15-week interactive learning lab with hands-on exposure to cotton, which culminated in the competition at the New York City campus. Student projects were judged by industry professionals from Carolina Herrara, Steve Madden, Bibhu Mohapatra, Alexander Wang, Cascale, Return to Vendor, WindowsWear, and others.

“Berkeley College is known for industry engagement in higher education, paving the way for students’ future career success,” said Joseph Scuralli, DPS, Dean, Berkeley College Larry L. Luing School of Business®, who submitted the application for the Cotton Incorporated 2024 Cotton in the Curriculum Grant. “Berkeley’s C.L.A.D. in Cotton! initiative enhanced our students’ industry knowledge and facilitated teamwork in an immersive and creative environment on campus.”

Fourth Prize: The Cotton Cycle from an Unconventional Non-Conformist
