U.S. Veterans Magazine has named Berkeley College as a 2024 Top Veteran-Friendly School, recognizing the colleges and universities that best serve military and veteran students. More than 240 military-aligned students are enrolled at Berkeley College*.

According to DiversityComm Media, the publisher of U.S. Veterans Magazine, rankings are based on evaluations of U.S. employers, law enforcement agencies, veteran outreach programs, and schools. The results are a valuable resource for transitioning veterans, job seekers, business owners, students, and consumers.

“We strive to encourage other companies to follow the lead and ultimately create a workforce that is supportive to our veteran community,” said Mona Lisa Faris, President and Publisher, U.S. Veterans Magazine.

Berkeley College has four on-site Veterans Resource Centers – in Newark, Woodbridge, and Woodland Park, NJ, and New York City, NY. The College also has an Online Veterans Resource Center that serves online students, as well as those who are active service members stationed overseas.

Berkeley College supports the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, and provides Yellow Ribbon grants to all eligible recipients. The College has partnered with the Department of Defense for all Military Tuition Assistance (TA) programs. The Military TA rate is extended to Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves, and their spouses for all degree programs.

Berkeley College student-veterans march annually in the New York City Veterans Day Parade, and are encouraged to participate in community service initiatives throughout the year.

The College has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report among the Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans for 11 consecutive years, as well as by publications including Military Advanced Education & Transition and Military Times.

As a student-veteran transitioning to college life, Carlos Figueroa Hercules said he valued support from the Berkeley College student services departments that provided “exceptional support” to veterans seeking a degree through benefits provided under the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ G.I. Bill. The U.S. Marine Corps veteran received a Bachelor of Science in National Security with a concentration in Intelligence from Berkeley College in 2024, and is employed as a Canine Explosive Detection Handler with MSA Security, an Allied Universal Company, in New York City.

“College is challenging. If it were easy, everyone would do it,” Figueroa Hercules said. “The biggest challenge of my college career was adjusting from the military to civilian life. My advice is don’t give up. The feeling you get when they call your name on graduation day is worth every effort.”
