Arianna is a true systems thinker in terms of fashion and sustainability. I am thrilled that she has been recognized in a global competition – she and her deep work throughout the semester on her Tortuga collection give me great hope for the future,” said Andrea Kennedy, Lead Faculty, Fashion, Berkeley College Larry L. Luing School of Business®

Santiago’s interest in sustainability began in early childhood when she joined her elementary school’s Science and Environmental Club. “I learned how drastically plastics and other manmade materials shortened the lives of sea turtles,” she said. “It was the first time I felt personally connected to our impact on the planet, and it planted in me a seed to make real change. So, Tortuga Clothing Company was born.”

Santiago’s goal is to encourage sustainable living in people’s lives. “I believe the time for change is now, but change cannot be made without inspiring collective action first,” Santiago said. She aspires to work in public relations in the fashion industry and plans to use her platform to promote sustainable fashion, designers and creators.
