TO LEAD AI LITERACY AND INNOVATION INITIATIVES

Berkeley College has appointed Jason Gulya, PhD, Professor, English and Media Communications, as the College’s AI Literacy Coordinator, effective September 2026. In this role, Gulya will lead efforts to help faculty, staff, and students develop the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence (AI) landscape. Gulya is a resident of Dunellen, NJ. 

“As AI continues to evolve, colleges and universities have an opportunity to rethink how we teach, learn, communicate, and prepare students for the future,” said Patricia Greer, JD, Provost, Berkeley College. “With his expertise in AI and higher education, Dr. Gulya is well positioned to help Berkeley College navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by AI as we continue to advance AI literacy, innovation, and student success.” 

Gulya joined Berkeley College in 2018 as a professor in the Division of General Education. He has been instrumental in advancing the College’s AI initiatives, serving as Chair of the Academic Integrity Committee and as a member of the Berkeley College AI Committee. His coursework focuses on what AI means for the future of writing and communications, and for academic integrity in higher education. 

Gulya is widely regarded as a leading voice in AI and education. He is the author and co-author of several books on artificial intelligence, including “Artificial Intelligence, Real Literacy” and “Transparency & Reflection: Navigating Student + AI Work in Higher Education.” 

Gulya was named an “Innovator to Watch” by INNOVATE100 and was recently accepted into the NJ AI Hub Faculty Futures AI Studio, where he will engage with other technology leaders in higher education. 

Gulya has presented for organizations across the country, including The Business and Applied Sciences Academy of North America (BAASANA), the American Association of Colleges and Universities, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. He has also been featured in Forbes, Business Insider, and other leading publications. 

Gulya holds a Doctorate, a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in English from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
