Dear Berkeley College Community,

The next Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) evaluation visits for seeking reaccreditation of Berkeley College in New Jersey and Berkeley College in New York are scheduled to occur during the 2026-2027 academic year. Preparation for reaccreditation consists of conducting an extensive institutional Self-Study that produces a written Self-Study Report for initial submission to MSCHE in Fall 2026. This report and the MSCHE Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation serve as the basis for an on-site evaluation by a team of peer evaluators.

During the Self-Study, Berkeley College will carefully consider its educational programs, policies, and services, with particular attention to student learning and achievement. The College also will determine how well these programs and services accomplish its goals, fulfill its mission, and meet MSCHE standards. Under the leadership of a Self-Study Steering Committee, Working Groups representative of the Berkeley College community will study specific aspects of the College relative to the MSCHE Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation. Working Groups will examine existing data and evaluations, gather new information, and prepare analytical reports on their assigned topics. The Self-Study Steering Committee monitors and supports the progress of the Working Groups and receives their written reports. The Self-Study Steering Committee will develop a draft report based on the reports of the Working Groups and will organize college-wide discussion of the drafts to ensure that input is received from all College constituencies. The Steering Committee will then prepare a final Self-Study Report, incorporating appropriate comments and perspectives, and the College will share the Report with the Berkeley College community.

The first step of the Self-Study process is to develop a Self-Study Design, which will be submitted to our assigned MSCHE liaison by February 14, 2025. The design for the Self-Study will outline how the College intends to approach its Self-Study and peer review. The design includes the rationale, scope, expected outcomes, questions that it intends to answer during the Self-Study, participants, and timetable for the Self-Study process.

The College’s assigned MSCHE liaison will visit the Woodland Park and Midtown Manhattan campuses during the 2025 Winter Semester to meet with President Diane Recinos, Provost Patricia Greer, the Steering Committee, and representative Board of Trustee members, faculty, staff, administrators, and students. If the MSCHE liaison approves the College’s Self-Study Design, then the College will move forward with the Self-Study as proposed.

This Self-Study will be a major event in the life of Berkeley College. Reaccreditation by MSCHE will demonstrate that Berkeley College is maintaining and improving the organization and its structure, staffing, curricula, and support to offer the highest quality education that will empower each student to achieve lifelong success.
