Online Book Club
The Online Book Club is reading :Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline during the Fall Semester. Online discussions will kick off National Distance Learning Week on 11/5 and continue through 11/16.
Among the many themes explored early in this story is education, describing a teenage boy attending classes in a rich virtual reality world called the OASIS. In the OASIS, a typical class trip could involve exploring the pyramids in Egypt or traveling through the human heart. While virtual reality is portrayed as science fiction in this story, we think this setting serves to paints a picture of how online learning could look in the not-too-distant future.
Join the Online Book Club on Wednesday, 11/7, at 11AM for a livestreamed (https://livestream.com/accounts/18082567/events/8411043) faculty panel discussing "Virtual Reality in Education". Hear from faculty who have been involved with Berkeley College’s efforts to enhance teaching and learning through the use of virtual reality, and their thoughts on the future of distance education as this technology becomes more mainstream.
