Berkeley College Knights Finalize 2018-2019 Regular Season with 12th Straight Victory; Clinch HVIAC Regular Season Title for Fifth Consecutive Year

The Berkeley College Men’s Basketball team put an exclamation point on another stellar regular season on Sunday, February 10, 2019, as the Knights blasted the Steels of Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, NY, by a score of 113-46 in a game that took place at John Jay College in New York, NY. With the triumph, the Knights wrapped-up the regular season at 19-4 overall, and 7-0 in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) play.
With the victory the night before on February 9, 2019, the Knights stayed perfect since the calendar switched to calendar year 2019, dominating the Mighty Oaks of SUNY-ESF by a score of 113-59 in an HVIAC contest, and clinched the HVIAC regular season title for the fifth consecutive year.
The victory kept two streaks alive for the Knights. Berkeley College has now won 37 consecutive home contests, as well as 12 games in a row overall. The Knights also scored a total of 226 points in consecutive games. Berkeley College had not scored 110 points or more in two straight games since December 2017, when they notched 120 points in a game at Five Towns College, Dix Hills, NY, and followed that up with 115 points in a home game against the College of St. Joseph, Rutland, VT.
Pacing Berkeley College in the triumph was Ricardo Ayuso of Brooklyn, NY, a graduate of Redemption Christian Academy, as he drained eight of his 10 attempts from the floor to finish with a game-high 20 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds, tallied three assists, and added two steals. Nigel Hemingway of Brooklyn, NY, a graduate of Grand Street Campus High School, netted 18 points while grabbing nine boards and contributing a game-high eight steals, and Nicholas Cora of Tampa, FL, a graduate of Sickles High School, posted a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 15 boards. Larence Horner of Astoria, Queens, NY, a graduate of Flushing High School, also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Stevaun Latouche of Far Rockaway, NY, a graduate of Beach Channel High School, and Shamiek Sheppard of Brooklyn, NY, a graduate of South Shore High School, added 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Prior to the game, the Berkeley College Department of Athletics – including Director of Athletics Andy DeStephano, Head Coach Jonathan Pena, and the entire men's basketball program – honored five seniors, including Larence Horner of Astoria, Queens, NY; Shamiek Sheppard and Dequan Jones, both of Brooklyn, NY; Darius Ward of New York, NY; and Ricardo Ayuso of Brooklyn, NY, in a special ceremony celebrating service to the institution’s men’s basketball team. Those student-athletes were presented with commemorative plaques in a show of appreciation for their tenures.

The Knights will play next Saturday, February 16, 2019, in the 1-4 semifinal round game of the 2018-2019 HVIAC Tournament. The game will start at 5:00 p.m., and Berkeley College will face either the College of New Rochelle, NY, or Albany College of Pharmacy, NY.
