March is Women’s History Month, commemorating the vital role of women in American history. In recognition of that role, throughout the month Berkeley College will hold events celebrating achievements made by women.
March 5, 2019 – Women’s History Month Trivia Wheel
Time: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Location: Student Center, Berkeley College, 430 Rahway Avenue, Woodbridge, NJ
Students will learn about the historical and present-day accomplishments of women.
March 6, 2019 – “The Barbie Complex: Body Shaming and Cultural Bias” Workshop
Time: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 536 Broad Street, Newark, NJ
Students will discuss what is considered beautiful and attractive in the United States, and how these traditional definitions apply to women of color.
March 6, 2019 – Women Who Inspire: Visual Board
Time: 12:30 to 6 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 99 Church Street, White Plains, NY
Students will learn about influential woman who shaped today’s society through a visual board, as well as have the opportunity to share stories about the women who inspire them.
March 6, 2019 – HERstory
Time: 5 to 6 p.m.
Location: Room 402, Berkeley College, 3 East 43rd Street, New York, NY
Berkeley College student club members will share the trials and tribulations of being women, and how they overcame their personal challenges.
March 7, 2019 – Can Women Have it All?
Time: 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 64 East Midland Avenue, Paramus, NJ
Students will discuss how women can successfully manage careers and family.
March 8, 2019 – Museum of Women’s Resistance
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.
Location: Departed from Berkeley College, 536 Broad Street, Newark, NJ
Students will visit the Museum of Women’s Resistance in Brooklyn, NY, to explore the “Great Migration” exhibit.
March 11, 2019 – “My Feminism” Pop and Watch
Time: 2 to 3 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 99 Church Street, White Plains, NY
Students will watch “My Feminism,” an examination of the second wave of feminism in the 1990s, during a time when there was anti-feminist backlash.
March 11, 2019 – Women’s Air Band
Time: 2 to 3:15 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 255 Duffield Street, Brooklyn, NY
Students were empowered to express themselves creatively by listening to songs written and inspired by women.
March 13, 2019 – “MissRepresentation” – Film and Discussion
Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 536 Broad Street, Newark, NJ
After showing this documentary, Amanda Frey, Personal Counselor, Berkeley College in Newark, will lead a discussion about how the media portrays women.
March 13, 2019 – Sister Circle: “Together We are Stronger”
Time: 2 to 3 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 99 Church Street, White Plains, NY
The Sister Circle will hold a conversation to inspire, motivate and empower women of the 21st century.
March 13, 2019 – “I AM” Workshop
Time: 5 to 6 p.m.
Location: Room 402, Berkeley College, 3 East 43rd Street, New York, NY
Attendees will participate in an affirmative exercise with the Women’s Empowerment Club.
March 14, 2019 – Fashion Careers
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Libra Balian, Creative and Marketing Operations, Tiffany & Co., will offer her expertise on retail and fashion. A walking tour on Fifth Avenue features WindowsWear, a collection of fashion windows and visual displays.

March 18, 2019 – HERstory: Celebrating Women from the Past and Present
Time: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Personal Counseling team will celebrate the successes and achievements of Berkeley College students with a photo project. Attendees will learn about women in history who paved the way for Berkeley College leaders to achieve their goals and make their own history.
March 18, 2019 – Women 2019: Let’s Visualize It
Time: 2 to 3:15 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 255 Duffield Street, Brooklyn, NY
Students will create vision boards to help them establish short- and long-term goals.
March 19, 2019 – #MeToo: Not Just a Movement
Time: 2 to 3 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 99 Church Street, White Plains, NY
Students, faculty and staff will discuss the #MeToo movement, the realities of sexual harassment, and how the hashtag has influenced women in the 21st century.
March 19, 2019 – Toiletry Donation Drive
Time: 3 to 4 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 255 Duffield Street, Brooklyn, NY
Berkeley College in Brooklyn will collect feminine products and toiletries for a local women’s shelter.
March 20, 2019 – Online Book Club Discussion: “Birthing the Elephant”
Time: 11 to 1 p.m.
Location: Community Room, Renaissance Hall, Berkeley College, 44 Rifle Camp Road, Woodland Park, NJ
Berkeley College will welcome Karin Abarbanel and Bruce Freeman, authors ofBirthing the Elephant: The Woman’s Go-For-It! Guide to Overcoming the Big Challenges of Launching a Business, for a presentation and question-and-answer session. The book is the Berkeley College Online Book Club’s spring reading selection. The event will be livestreamed to each campus.
March 20, 2019 – “Girl Talk” Workshop
Time: 5 to 6 p.m.

Elaine Zukerman, Personal and Wellness Counselor, will lead a discussion about boundaries, sexuality and relationships.
March 21, 2019 – Women’s Empowerment Day
Time: 12 to 2 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 64 East Midland Avenue, Paramus, NJ
Plus-size model and radio personality Jaylah Sandoval will speak about her journey in the entertainment industry. This event is sponsored by the Student Government Association and the SDCL Volunteer Leadership Team.
March 25, 2019 – 9th Annual Women’s History Panel
Time: 9 to 11 a.m.
Location: The Atrium, Renaissance Hall, Berkeley College, 44 Rifle Camp Road, Woodland Park, NJ
Elected officials from New Jersey will share their perspectives and experiences as women of influence. The panel includes Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi (R-39th); Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake (D-34th); Cassandra “Sandi” Lazzara, Deputy Director, Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders; Danielle Ireland-Imhof, Passaic County Clerk; and Sue Butterfield, President, Passaic County Education Association. Representatives from several chambers of commerce will be in attendance.
March 27, 2019 – The Clothesline Project
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: Berkeley College, 536 Broad Street, Newark, NJ
The Newark campus will bring awareness to violence and abuse with a clothesline exhibit of T-shirts created by students, faculty and staff.
March 27, 2019 – Women’s Afternoon Tea
Time: 3 to 4 p.m.

A roundtable discussion will celebrate women, while providing a safe space for networking and mentorship.

The Women’s Empowerment Club will host a panel discussion on self-empowerment and success. The Women’s History Month page of the Online Student Community invites students to join a discussion of sexism, the barriers they have faced, and challenges they have overcome.
Influential Women
The Women’s History Month page of the Online Student Community invites students to share stories of the women who have positively affected their lives.
Be Rosie the Riveter
Be Rosie! Students can submit a photo of themselves in their best Rosie the Riveter pose. Submissions will be featured in the Online Student Community.
Story Quilt
Berkeley College will create a Story Quilt using submissions from students. Students can create a piece of the “quilt” to honor influential women in their lives or to tell their stories. The initiative was inspired by artist Faith Ringgold, who is known for her painted story quilts, which surround a strong narrative. Submissions must be made by March 22.
